A famous brave humanity film called “Hope” is a tear- jerking movie that I love most up to now. “ Hope” is a 2013 South Korean film directed by Lee Joon- ik, reconstructed by a real horrifying case of the land kimchi Nayoung in December 2008. The film tells a story of tragedy of a 8- year old girl, Sowon- the central character was raped and beaten savagely by a drunk 57- year old man in a public toilet. This gruesome criminal is only sentenced to 12 years imprisonment but the pitiful little girl, who is internally and externally damaged, has to suffer a hard time overcoming all obstacles and obsessions with the incident in her later life. The psychological effect makes the girl become scared whenever seeing any man, even her father. “Hope” reflects the reality of direct and indirect victims of pedopilia in society as well as shows the spiritual bond of family and mutual family affection. When the film goes on general release, it receives positive reactions and praise from audiences and international critique. Neither media promotion nor prominent cast members, “ Hope” persuades the audience by humanity and sympathetic content. This film was nominated in many famous film festivals in Korea and other Asian countries and excellently won Best film at the 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards. In conclusion, the success of “ Hope” makes a valuable contribution to denounce the crime of sexual violence in our society nowadays.
