1. To raise money for charity, a ten-year-old Braunton boy camped in his yard. John Woodley slept every night in the tent given to him by his friend Rick just before Rick died of cancer. The boy first dozed off in Rick’s tent on March 29, 2020, and remained there for a full year. He mostly stayed in his backyard, only coming inside for meals, cleaning, and school activities. John contributed to the more than 105,590 pounds raised by North Devon Hospice, a charity that provides free care and support to patients and their families. Before they passed away, the hospice provided care for Rick and his wife. By reading John’s story, a lot of people have been motivated to donate to other charities.
