During summer vacation, my whole family goes back to my hometown to play. That night, I followed my grandmother to see a rowing show at the top of the village. That cheo play is called Quan Am Thi Kinh. The place called the stage is actually an empty lot at the top of the village, cleaned up, and spread out mats for “artists” to perform. It wasn’t time to start yet, but the people in the village had already come to stand in a large crowd. Old people, young people, boys and girls, everyone is excited and looking forward. And then, after the drum beat, from behind the curtain, the hostess wearing a four-piece shirt came out to greet everyone and introduce the character. The rowing singers all wear beautiful costumes and attractive makeup. When the hostess introduced someone, that person walked up to greet everyone. Then, of course, comes the official performance. Obviously, I’ve seen this cheo play before, but today it’s so good. Every gesture and action of the character is so attractive. I cried with poor Thi Kinh, angry when Thi Mau acted like a monster. Sharing that feeling with me, who are also watching next to me. We are happy together, sad together with the characters. Just like that, the performance lasted for more than three hours, but it seemed like only a few minutes. By the time I got home, I was still numb. I really hope that soon, I will be able to see a rustic, simple but attractive rowing show like this again soon.
