The story is about a boy named Tich Chu, his mother died early, so he lived with his grandmother. Every day, his grandmother had to work hard to earn money to feed Tich Chu, always giving him good food and her love for him. The two grandchildren rely on each other to live day by day. Due to her old age, hard work and hard eating, Tich Chu’s grandmother was seriously ill, had a high fever, and had no one to take care of her. Because now Tich Chu is having fun with his friends. Then at noon one day, because she was thirsty, she fell ill, so Mrs. Tich Chu called him to get her a glass of water, but called 3 times, he still didn’t answer. By the time Tich Chu returned, it was too late, his grandmother had died and turned into a cuckoo that flew up into the sky. The boy burst into tears, a fairy appeared to tell him that if you want to save her, go back to get water from the Fairy Stream for her to drink, but the road to the stream is very long and hard. Tich Chu still determined that he would go and fetch water from the Fairy Stream for her to drink so that she would come back to life and become the person next to him. So he asked Mrs. Tien about the way to Fairy Stream and immediately set off. Overcoming many difficulties in the mountains and forests, Tich Chu was able to get water for her to drink. After drinking water from Tich Chu spring, his grandmother immediately became a human. Tich Chu was overjoyed, hugged her and apologized. Since then, Tich Chu wholeheartedly loved and cared for his grandmother. The two grandchildren live happily, dependent on each other.
Once upon a time in Lac Viet, there was a god of the dragon family called Lac Long Quan, who lived in the water, sometimes went up on land except for the demons and taught the people to grow crops. In the high mountains at that time, there was a great lady Au Co who heard the voice of Lac Than land and came to visit. Au Co and Lac Long Quan met and became husband and wife.
Au Co was pregnant and gave birth to a bag of hundreds of eggs that hatched into 100 healthy children. Because they were not used to living on land, Lac Long Quan took 50 children to the sea – Au Co brought 50 children to the mountain, telling each other to never forget their appointment. The eldest son followed Au Co to become king and took the title of Hung Vuong, named the country Van Lang, passed down unchanged for decades.
Because of this legend, when Vietnamese people refer to their origin, they often call themselves Dragon and Fairy descendants.
