1. Conversation about Võ Thị Sáu

   Tom: Hello, Dung. Today my history teacher tells us about the character called Vo Thi Sau. Do you know anything about her?

   Dung: Yeah, of course! I watched a documentary about her last night.

   Tom: Um… Can I ask you a question? When was she born? And where does she live?

   Dung: Vo Thi Sau was born in 1933, and died in 1952, in a poor family in Dat Do Province, Ba Ria Vung Tau.

   Tom: Wow! What is her personality? Is she smart and brave?

   Dung: Absolutely, she is very brave and intelligent. She always completed all of her missions as a volunteer police officer. And she also participated in many battles to protect her homeland. The French colonialists were extremely afraid and angry about the activities of the volunteer police team.

   Tom: That’s amazing! In my lesson, our teacher said Vo Thi Sau died because she was arrested by the French. Can you explain that to me?

   Dung: Well, during a business trip to Dat Do, Sau was captured by the enemy and imprisoned for more than a month in Dat Do prison. The enemy used many cruel tricks but still could not get a word from her. Although she was detained by the enemy, Sau continued to act as a liaison for her teammates. Despite not having enough evidence, the French colonialists still sentenced her to death and exiled her to Con Dao.
